Creation
On 24th March the Quaker Schools (Bootham, The Mount and Ackworth) are giving a performance of Haydn's Creation in York Minster at 7.30. The conductor Derek Chivers has very kindly offered to give all proceeds to us. We are so grateful to him and obviously the bigger the audience we can muster, the more the donation will be. Do try to come and hear it. The music is just wonderful - really happy and spirit lifting- a perfect antidote to the rather depressing times in which we seem to be living. Tickets can be bought on the door or from the Minster Box Office Tel: 0844 9390015 or www.boxoffice.yorkminster.org
Helmsley book sale
There will be a book sale at Helmsley market on Friday 25th May. Do come and support us if you are in the area on that day. If you have any books to contribute please phone the office to arrange when and where to deliver them. We may be able to collect if necessary.
Mahler
Thank you so much to everyone who took part in the performance of Mahler's 8th Symphony last year. NYMTC received a donation of £4,000 from the event.
String Sunday
On Sunday 11th March a group of string players spent the afternoon playing music together in Bishopthorpe. Amongst the pieces were Raff's Octet, Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik and the Serenade by Dvorak. Angela did the conducting and huge fun was had by all. Thank you so much to Heather Marvin and Shan Thomas who organised it and chose to dedicate the proceeds to NYMTC. They raised nearly £350 for us.
Trustees
We would love to find some more trustees for the charity. If you think you might be interested please get in touch with the office 01653 698129 or admin@music-therapy.org.uk

Prestigious New Role for our Lead Music Therapist

In the Autumn of 2010, Angela Harrison was elected into the Chair of the Association of Professional Music Therapists (APMT), the national body in the UK. Here you see the retiring Chairman, Stephen Sandford announcing the results of the vote and handing over the role to Angela.
Angela now has the task of leading her London-based team into the final stages of a merger between the APMT and the British Society for Music Therapy (BSMT) to form the British Association for Music Therapy.
This will be quite a tall order on top of her work here in Yorkshire, but the experience gained in the years she has spent working for and running a charity will stand her in good stead.
Summer Guitar Concert

The York Guitar festival concert held at Queen Margaret’s School raised nearly £1,000 for the work of NYMTC. Thank you so much to the organisers, to the performers who gave their services for free and to the audience for making this event such a great success.
Reels at the Feathers
Thank you to everyone involved in the brilliant evening of reels dancing at the Feathers Hotel in Helmsley in October. The event raised a fabulous sum in excess of £1,500 and we are thrilled!
The Field Quartet
The quartet presented an evening of chamber music in May. Many thanks to the performer, organisers and everyone who attended this lovely concert in the Tithe Barn in Nether Poppleton, York. More than £1,200 was raised for the work of the charity.
Many thanks to everyone who was involved in organising and performing in the concert in October “Come to the Cabaret” at Scarborough Rugby Club in Scalby, particularly Sue Hartley, Director of Music at Bramcote School, Scarborough.
The event made over £1,300 for the charity, thank you to all!
Our thanks to the riders from the York Inset Scooter Club and the Ryedale Ryders for raising money for us during a 440 mile trip made in just one day. Click here to find out more in The Press.

Angela was chosen to be involved in a Department of Health initiative to develop Leadership Skills for Allied Health Professionals. She and a team of 2 Occupational Therapists, a Speech Therapist, a Podiatrist and a Physiotherapist won the regional event held in Bradford and stormed to the final in London. They were not overall winners, but found the event challenging see the video of the final here.
HRH The Duke of York's Community Initiative Awards
We were thrilled to be able to attend the presentation ceremony for HRH The Duke of York’s Community Initiative Awards in Leeds. Prince Andrew was in great form, smiling and chatting to everyone in a very relaxed manner. Not only did we receive the award for the charity and Angela’s outstanding leadership but also a cheque for £500 from the Yorkshire Society.
Thank you also to the Yorkshire Society for the donation of an Ashley Jackson Limited Edition Print of the Cow and Calf, Ilkley for us to auction at a future event
