Supporter Paul Bellinger has very kindly offered to raise funds for us. To mark his 70th birthday he is going to do a Wing Walk from Breighton Aerodrome near Selby on Sunday 4th July. Thank you Paul!
In his own words:
I first thought about what I might do to mark entering my 70th year about 2 years ago, as I approached the summit of Scarfell Pike.
My friend Ken decided that to celebrate his 70th he would climb the highest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England. He invited me to join him on Scarfell Pike in the Lake District. The last few hundred yards were in thick snow and we have a photo of us at the summit barely discernable covered by waterproofs, hats and scarves.
I thought I would like to do something similar for my 70th but perhaps not as energetic!!!
I decided on Wing Walking – climbing to the height of Scarfell Pike by just standing on the wing of a plane!!
The flight is booked for Sunday 4th July 21 at Breighton Aerodrome, near Selby, subject to weather conditions and the CAA approving a new maximum weight requirement. If they don’t, I will need to go on a crash diet!!!
I did not plan for this to be a fundraiser but as Marilyn says “If you are going to do something so stupid you ought to raise funds for charity!!!”
If you are family or friends and thinking “What on earth can I buy him for his birthday!” or you just feel moved to recognise this act of lunacy, please consider a donation to the following local charity or a charity of your choice.
North Yorkshire Music Therapy – I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t involved in singing with choirs or singing groups. They have provided music therapy to people across North Yorkshire for over 30 years.
Please visit their website for more information on the work they do and how to donate.
