About North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre

North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre is a small charity providing community-based music therapy primarily across Scarborough, Ryedale and surrounding rural areas. We work with people of all ages who face barriers to communication, connection and wellbeing - including children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), adults with learning disabilities, older adults with dementia and those experiencing trauma or mental health challenges.

Our work is grounded in evidence-based music therapy, delivered by qualified Music Therapists, with support from trained community musicians. Through structured one-to-one and group sessions, we use music to support emotional expression, communication, confidence and social engagement. We particularly target individuals who are excluded from, or underserved by, mainstream health and care services. Each year we support over 311 people across approximately 1,556 sessions, delivered in special schools, care homes, community centres and wellbeing hubs.

The Role

The Freelance Grant Manager will be responsible for securing income that enables North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre to expand access to high-quality music therapy services for children, young people and adults across the region.

Working closely with the Director, you will primarily be responsible for small to medium size trusts and foundations, developing compelling funding cases that demonstrate the life-changing impact of music therapy across education, health, social care and community settings. You will bring together clinical outcomes, participant stories, evaluation data and strategic priorities to create persuasive applications that resonate with funders.

As well as identifying and developing funding opportunities, you will play an important role in ensuring funders understand the difference our work makes, helping to communicate how music therapy supports emotional wellbeing, communication, confidence, social connection and quality of life for people facing a wide range of challenges.
