What People Are Saying

“Music therapy has demonstrated

quite stunning results in our school

in improving concentration,

attention, communication and

enjoyment for pupils with severe

learning disabilities, autism and

communication difficulties.”

A young boy singing with his eyes closed and mouth open, sitting at a table in a classroom, while another child and a man playing guitar sit nearby. The classroom has bulletin boards, a wooden door, and various educational materials on the walls.

“Every week I see is a physical change in our clients.

I observe them relax and become more playful when

they experiment with the instruments. They engage

with the rhythm and music encouraging each other

to have fun. When the session ends, the mood in the

room is very upbeat.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The MMV fund is our general donation and grant fund that underpins the work of the Charity.

The term Music my Voice (MMV) captures how music can help people communicate and express their feelings and emotions.

It complements funding we receive for specific projects or for capital expenditure. The fund directly supports the range of work our music therapists conduct with children, with the elderly and with our local community.

For example, the MMV supports the following:

    • Subsidising music therapy services for individual children in special schools: schools are charged only 50% of the full fee, with the remainder provided by MMV

    • Helping with the provision of therapy for individual clients, where the fees cannot be otherwise met or where additional costs are involved

    • Group sessions, held in our premises (or, during the Covid restrictions, remotely over the internet). We hold a variety of group sessions, for instance for parents and toddlers, disabled children, those with mental health issues, and the elderly and their carers. All such sessions are free, and where sessions are not fully funded through project grants they are supported through MMV.

    • Community musical activities and support. We run a range of activities for our local community, including a community choir and informal concerts and music-making. Costs are supported through MMV.

    • Covering the costs of volunteers. Unpaid volunteers support a range of our activities and services, and the MMV fund supports volunteer expenses.

  • Add 25% more to your donation at no cost to you. A Gift Aid declaration allows North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre to claim tax back on eligible donations. It means that for every £1 you donate to North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre we can claim back 25p, at no extra cost to you. To add Gift Aid to your donation please complete all the fields in the contact form when making your donation.

  • By leaving a gift in your will, you can ensure that this important work continues for generations to come. Your legacy will support our mission to provide accessible, affordable music therapy services to those who need them most, expand our reach within the local community, and fund vital research into the benefits of music therapy.

A legacy donation may seem like a small gesture, but its impact will resonate for years, touching the lives of countless individuals through the transformative power of music.

Thank you for considering leaving a legacy with us.
